This chrysalis was hanging from a twig of a black ash in a black ash swamp. Earlier, I'd seen a caterpillar (larva) of the same species. The adult it will become is shown in the inset. The same black, white and orange colours are in the beautiful chrysalis as in the adult (the larva is orange and black). The larval food plants is just about exclusively turtlehead, which grows in wetland areas.
