Even though a cool, gray day (until late afternoon when the sun appeared), this chickadee knows spring is here. A pair were excavating a birch snag (standing dead tree) for a nest site. Here, you can see this one has a mouthful of soft wood chips which will be carried from the nest site and dropped. The two of them did this many times, one after the other. Amazing!
