Bumble flower beetle (Euphoria inda)

These are one of the first beetles to fly around in very early spring. They look like bumblebees and they buzz loudly, just like a bee. But they don't sting or bite! They are actually scarab beetles (flower scarabs in this case). They feed on pollen, according to Stephen Marshall, and they lay their eggs in dung and rotting vegetation. They are rather endearingly funny, because they fly low over the ground, going in no particular direction, often round in circles, and sometimes nearly knock themselves out by flying straight into plant stems or tree seedlings. They also have a quite lovely Genus name: Euphoria! They also have neat antennae... look at those paddle-like ones!

Wow, super detail here, Christine! And what a great commentary -- almost enough to make me like them since I run into a lot of things too ;-). Those antennae are definitely unique looking to me. V.
