Metallic wood-boring beetle (Dicerca divaricata)

Gatineau

This beetle (aabout 1 inch in size) flew onto the tree next to which I was standing. It was difficult to get a good shot for, as you can see, it is well camouflaged against the bark. These beetles are borers in deciduous trees.

Beautiful capture and insect. I think I recall these only feed n dead or dying trees, yes? How to they compare to the emerald ash borer?

You captured this very well Christine. I find this a very beautiful beetle with a somewhat strange form.

Blends in well Christine, but you managed a good shot of it. Great find too.

Le mimétisme de l'insecte avec le tronc de l'arbre est fantastique. C'est une très belle photo.
Tu as un grand sens de l'observation pour découvrir ces insectes si difficile à voir.
