These tiny blue beetles are common willows, particularly the abundant scrub willows along the sides of wetlands. These were photographed in Larose Forest.
I'm thinking that shiny blue isn't great camouflage. It must let predators know that it's either toxic or unpalatable. Or perhaps it's piggy backing on expectations of similar looking inedible insects.
