This handsome leaf beetle in the Chrysomelidae Family, is shown here feeding on a Solanum dulcamara plant. The plant is not native to North America, but the beetle is, being from Colorado and adjacnet states, originally, but spreading throughout the US wherever potatoes are grown. Bug Guide says that prior to the introduction of potatoes into many regions, it would have fed on native Solanum plants, no doubt species such as S. nigrum. Notice the red mites on this beetle.
