This large spider was about 25 mm in length. She was sitting on a drain cover, about 3/4 km from the Ottawa River. When I tried to get closer, she nipped under the lid and that was that. Although their name suggests that they live near water, and they do, these large Dolomedes will often travel inland some distance, as this one did. They stalk their prey, much like a lion does.
