Milk snake (Lampropeltis triangulum)

Found this beauty in the Burnt Lands provincial park near Almonte. These beautiful snakes are usually nocturnal, which is why they are so seldom seen, but we lifted up a rock and there it was. After a few photos, for which it sat obligingly still, it retreated back under the rock. These gorgeous snakes are constrictors, and mostly feed on mice and other small creatures, including other snakes. We didn't measure this snake, but it was probably about 30 inches long.
