Sawfly (Dolerus nitens)

There were many of these small (about 9mm) black sawflies on a forsythia bush. The one of the right is partly covered in yellow pollen. I saw others that were even more thickly coated and one was trying to wipe the pollen from its eyes. This is introduced sawfly, and it is thanks to the experts at Bug Guide that it was identified.

This would make a great illustration for an entomology text.
