American crow eating Staghorn sumac

There are still some stands of staghorn sumac with lots of 'cones'. Birds such as this crow, chickadees, cardinals, and others, as well as squirrels, eat these seeds in winter and they form an important part of the winter diet for many species.

Very interesting behavioral shot. I had no idea crows ate sumac. It never seemed like something a crow would find appealing.
