Northeastern pine sawyer beetle, male (Monochamus notatus)

Larose Forest. Several of these very large Long-horned beetles with very impressive antennae, came to the lights when we were looking for moths one night. The male has very long antennae.

What antennae! They must be jolly useful to make up for carrying such a seeming encumbrance.

Very surprising and great shot against the beautiful bark. Ogden Nash would have written a rhyme for this one, a truly great shot of this amazing critter. V
