Each of these small solitary bees creates their own burrow in which they lay their eggs. However, they nest in colonies, that is... many separate burrows can be found in the same site, but each burrow holds only one bee. Unlike honey bees and bumblebees which are true colonial nesters, all living together in the same hive or burrow.
