It was here, on 15 May 1479 BCE, in "the first recorded battle in history," that Pharaoh Thutmose III defeated the the Kadesh alliance, re-establishing Egypt's dominance over the area and beginning a reign "in which Egypt reached its greatest expanse as an empire."

So it could be said, loosely, that this is where it all started and, by some traditions, where it's all going to end.
