This gallery is of our trip in July, 2013, to Europe and the UK.

We flew into Munich for one night and did a walk around Marienplatz and some of the sites of Munich. The next day we drove to see Hohenzollern Castle near the town of Hechingen in the Black Forest and then onto Strasbourg, France. Strasbourg is a beautiful city in the Alsatian area of France situated on the Ill River which flows into the Rhine. After 2 nights in Strasbourg, we drove to Reims for a night, visited the impressive Reims Notre-Dame Cathedral, and then onto the very picturesque Bruges, the "Venice of the North", in the Flemish region of Belgium, for 3 nights. We then spent a night in Brussels before catching the plane to London's Heathrow.

From Heathrow, we drove to Reading for a night and then onto Coventry for a night. Coventry is regarded as the birthplace of the British Motor Industry and was therefore heavily bombed in the Second World War. The next day, we drove north for 3 nights in Alnwick, stopping on the way at Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal Estate in North Yorkshire. We based ourselves in Alnwick in order to get the Farne Islands to see the puffins and other sea birds and also other sites in the area.

After Alnwick, we drove to see Rosslyn Chapel and then via Edinburgh to Fort Augustus for 3 nights and used it as a central base to tour the beautiful Scottish Highlands seeing such landmarks as Loch Ness and Eilean Donan Castles. The next stop was a night in Aberdeen, driving through the north of Scotland via Inverness and Elgin where we visited the ruins of Elgin Cathedral. After Aberdeen, we drove south seeing such sites as Donnattar Castle, then onto Carlisle for a night and then down to Liverpool for 2 nights through the beautiful Lakes District.

What trip to Liverpool would be complete without a Beatles Tour and after that it was down to Telford for a night and then onto Cardiff in Wales for 2 nights. After seeing the castles and other sites around Cardiff we drove to Exeter in Cornwall for 2 nights to see such places as the ruins of the legendary King Arthur's Castle at Tintagel and also visited Port Isaac to see where they made "Doc Martin" TV series.

After 2 nights in Exeter, it was back to London via the Cricket St Thomas estate, where they made the TV series "To the Manor Born", then on to Stonehenge and then to London for 2 last nights before our trip home to Australia.
