Kooringa Telegraph Station and Post Office

view map

Designed by Colonial Architect W. Hanson and built 1861, but substantially added to since.
Now an art gallery. Kooringa was the name of the original company town centred on the mine.
With the surrounding centres like Redruth and Aberdeen, the area was known as "The Burra".
Kooringa and these centres were consolidated into one town called simply "Burra" in 1940.
