Emily in Remission 8.2.10

On February 8 doctors said the magic words " Emily is in remission " No cancer cells evident in her body. I'm sure I don't have to say how good it was to hear those words six weeks after diagnosis. Treatment will of course continue for the full 2 year period & remission will need to remain for 5 years before a declaration of cure can be made.

She remains in hospital, though she came close to be coming home twice. Low Neutrophils this morning. Last week it was an elevated temperature. Hospital treatment both as an in & outpatient will be daily for 2 years to come.

Her body has gone through some changes as is evident in this image taken yesterday. She has made her medicos very happy with her lack of expected adverse reactions, ie: sickness & mouth ulcers etc: Her appitite has all but disappeared...icecream & sultanas are her only & favourite food....still breastfed she is receiving the nutrients needed & nutritionists are closely monitoring her.

Thank you for the messages and support I am continually receiving from wonderful pbasers.
My life is still divided into many parts with small amount of time to spare for each.

Small steps, huge results....

Glad to hear that good news, Laine. Poor child looks a bit like she´s wondering what´s happening all around her. A big portion of icecream from me.

Good news. A child has not to be ill but it's life.
My sun is now 17, he's diabetic with an insulin pump since he's 3.
Take care.

Laine,
You do not know me but we are connected as caregivers fighting leukemia. I have learned much about cancer, but much more about living during our 10 months battling leukemia. Keep enjoying every moment and I am sure God will continue to hold you both in his hands. What an angel!

Oh, such good news. Yes, the throws of chemotherapy are not fun but she is a trooper and believe with all my heart that she will stay in remission. She is beautiful and I know you will dance at her wedding. Still all of you are in my prayers and will continue to be through the duration of her treatment. Special hugs to little Emily and to you and her parents. Happy Day!

Such a treasure your precious child is,
who will thrive on every hug and kiss.
Hold them close and sing them songs;
they will only be a child for so long.

Wonderful news for all Laine...
