The Simplest Designs

West Virginia

Everything made today has planned obsolescence built into it. Here is an object that has stood the test of time.

The first patent was applied for in 1852 and there are only two wooden clothespin manufacturers left in the United States

Ok, so maybe almost everyone uses a clothes dryer these days. But clothespins have other uses. Like closing snack bags, hanging pants and skirts from hangers and of course, painting them to make little toy soldiers.

No fabric freshener sheet can mimic the smell of air dryed sheets.

And they last about 100 years unlike plastic versions that have replaced them.. :)

Hail the....clothes peg to us :>) I don't own a clothes dryer & I don't like anyone hanging out my clothes other then myself as it's a task I enjoy...long live this wonderful invention...I made angels with dolly pegs years ago & they hang on my Christmas tree.
Love your conversion Karen.

Great composition and subject matter. DOF is perfect too. I love to hang my laundry out...I agree...nothing beats the freshness.

I also like the ones without the metal spring. Good to take a fresh look at a commonplace object.

Well done, Karen. This one looks at though it has been around a while.

Nice composition Karen. These little do all have been around a while and like you said they have many many uses besides what they were intended for.

We use clothes-pins almost daily aboard Shibumi.
No plastic version for us, only wood.
I pleade guilty to taking them for granted.
Now maybe I will regard them as indispensable equipment; they really are.
Guest 12-Jan-2006 13:26

Very nice composition. The power of simplicity.
Beverly Wickersham12-Jan-2006 12:47
Reminds me of when my mother hung the clothes out to dry in the winter. They often froze solid and had to
be taken in to thaw out and try again.
