Ah, the mysteries of West Virginia!!!!
It’s so intriguing to find strange objects and so fanciful to try to imagine what they are for.
If it’s really a witch’s cauldron , then obviously the lid is to prevent bats and frogs to jump our before being perfectly cooked!
But I like imagining, with my Swiss background, that it’s to fry an enormous quantities of potatoes, to get an overdose of chips and, since it can be smelly, clever West Virginians make all the procedure outdoors, but since West Virginia is very wind ( pure supposition) they need a kind of lid/screen to avoid the dead autumn leaves to fall inside the oil and to be eaten alter as chips!
Let’s play with fancy and lets’ stop to take all too seriously once in a while.
Fascinating picture, Karen, I love old things, mostly when they look someway a little rusty too, it’s like some nice wrinkles on a beautiful woman’s face.

I love this shot. The tree post fence and the shed really add interest. I think they made soap in that pot.

I'll go along with the soap maker theory. I hope you weren't trespassing to get this ...I have read those signs, you know !! :>)

You certainly have the knack for finding the unusual, Karen........one of the many reasons that you are one of my favorites.

I think it must have something to do with contacting the mother ship. Either that or what Mary said!

Looks kind of like a soap kettle or one of those outdoor deep frying things.

Neat find and shot. I've seen things like this out in cow fields, but have no clue
what they are and used for.

Nice shot, like the idea of a satellite dish :)
joanteno30-Sep-2005 12:04
Nice shot! Wonder what it is really used for?

Isn't it amazing what types of things can be found just by walking around. I wonder what is in the shed to the left.
