How to Not take a Self Portrait

Polaroid Big Shot. Fufjifilm FP3000B.

This was an experiment. The Big Shot has a fixed focal length of about 3 1/2 feet. It works much better with a flash since the aperture is f29. So I used asa 3000 black and white film and guessed at the distance.

It's out of focus which didn't surprise me. I think my face is in focus pretty good though. I can't explain that. It shouldn't be. Maybe I'm imagining it.

The outline of the arms, etc, is actually what you would see in the view finder before you bring it into focus and merge them into one.

So underexposed and out of focus. Hey, it's very forgiving of wrinkles and blemishes. :)

I like the results. To me, it seems that the camera and your wrist are in focus, the face is a bit off and as my eye moves down the frame, it seems more out of focus. It is almost as if the camera was not completely level, facing down slightly, so the DoF increases toward the bottom. Maybe I'm just seeing things too. LOL. But seriously, I sure do like this, Karen. Good experiment and a great self portrait because you have captured your adventurous and experimental spirit. V
