Merry Xmas by Jono Slack

Just found this old favorite - and it seemed perfect for the theme.
It isn't just the contrast in the photograph, it's the contrast between the ludicrous hat, and the strange expression,
the contrast between the seasonal spirit and the brooding mood,
and of course between the juvenile hat and old age.

I think this distinguished lady has a mischevous look. I thought...Macbeth, but that a bit unfair :-) It is a little disturbing on some level...very much on theme, excellent work, particularly because it makes you think - Quentin

Hi Jono, I suppose by personal "relevance" I meant that it was an old-time favorite of yours....though I did wonder if there was also a family connection. In any case, it's a terrific portrait with lots of "contrast"! -- DF

Hi Jono, not painful, just strangely moving. You've captured something i can't quite put my finger on, but it's very effective.
Now, back to trying to find someone who'll give me interest free credit on a 12" ibook!

Jono....I think it's fabulous for all the reasons you listed, and for its importance and personal relevance for you. In fact, I think it's a treasure. The more I look at those eyes, the more I see great mischief being had in donning the hat. Priceless. -- DF
