This fort was founded in 1299 by King Haakon 5. Magnusson. The rocks consist of many differents minerals. May be I've been a little to hard in photoshop because I wanted to bring forward the different colours in the rocks that the fort is built of. The rocks are taken from many different places around in Oslo and also from the islands straight outside t.ex. the island Hovedøya that the canon in picture 18 is pointing straight at. An old monastery out there was burned down and demolosed in 1532 and the rocks from there were used in the building of this fort. U may see some of the marina out there in mentioned pic. as well. Only the history of the rocks and where they came from is a story by itself. I know people often say that Akershus is made of grey rocks, but there are no such rocks. They are grey because they're oxidised. Remove the outer layer and the colours come forward. These photos are only some few. I may need several trips around there if I wanna present a series that is fair to this old historicel place in Oslo that has been there all the way since the middle age. The bricks U see from pic. 39 - 48 were made in a brickyard that once was straight outside the fort.
My second trip to the fort for photographing took place 31. July 2010, but i choosed a wrong time. Sky cleared up and i got a bright strong afternoon sun to handle and too many tourists as well. Added to this are several places closed for restoring now. But I got some photos nevertheless. Some may be a little similar to what U found in the first group, but different anyway. The new group starts from no. 49.
Pic. no. 60 "De kjempet de falt de gav oss alt = They fought they fell they gave us all". This is a memorial place where 42 Norwegian patriots were shot to death by the Germans during World War 2 1940-1945. Germans helping Norwegians etc. were probably shot on this place as well, but there's no documentations about it.
Behind the the black door in pic. 68 are the graves of the Norwegian Royal family - so far only 4 after Norway again got the independence in 1905. As the first King became Prince Christian Frederik Carl Georg Valdemar Axel of Denmark. He took the name Haakon VII of Norway and by that he followed and continued the old Norwegian names of Kings. His wife Maud Charlotte Mary of Great Britain became Queen Maud of Norway and the mother of King Olav V. Martha Sofia Lovisa Dagmar Thyra of Sweden became as the wife of then Crown Prince Olav Crown Princess of Norway. She's the mother of Norways present King Harald V, but she never became a Queen because she died in 1954. Crown Prince Olav became King Olav V in 1957. He died January 17. 1991.
