SHELTON, CT - At approximately 3:00 p.m. on February 28, Shelton Companies 4, 1, and 3 were dispatched to a structure fire on Pequot Trail in the city's Pine Rock Park section. Upon arrival, first in units found a trailer which housed a women and her two pets, a cat and a dog, fully involved. This fire had also extended to a fully loaded storage shed. Before the arrival of fire the fire department, off-duty Bridgeport firefighter Dave Otero, who lives in the area, heard the woman shouting for her pets and rescued her cat and dog from the burning trailer. The woman was taken to Griffin Hospital for smoke inhalation. The cat and dog were taken to the Ansonia-Westfield Animal Hospital and vets are optimistic about their recovery. During fireground operations, fire department members had to keep a large 250 lb. propane tank cool that was attached to the trailer. There were also several explosions from inside the storage shed that sent debris raining down on the members and apparatus.
