Before the Tishman, Rand, and Lafayette Buildings were built. The building under the "Continuous Vaudeville" sign is the former Lafayette Presbyterian Church. It was built in 1862, and continued as a church through 1896, after which it was remodeled into the theater shown here, and was initially named the Lafayette Theater, and in 1914, was renamed the Olympic Theater. After it was torn down, and the Rand and the Lafayette Building went up, the movie theater in the new Lafayette Building was named the Lafayette Theater.
