About 20 yrs ago me and a galfriend were riding from Grandfather Mt on my motorcycle. The weather got bad, cold and hail though it was a summer day. We pulled off the road looking for shelter and came to what appeared to be an abandoned house. We sat on the porch and wrapped ourselves in some plastic we found on the porch. Surprised a lady came to the door and asked what we were doing. We pointed to the weather and the motorcycle and it was easy to see. She understood and asked us in ! We ate lunch with her and her mom and dad ! She was a professor at Boone and this was her summer house ( as best as I can remember ). She showed us around the house and told us it used to be an Inn were people from far off would come and drink the water from the spring on the property to which the name of the Inn was given. ( people believed in those healing powers back then ). She also told us the Inn was ( maybe 3/?? stories ) high until a fire . She showed us a picture on the fireplace mantel of the Lady who ran the Inn many years ago. It was a very nice visit and I certainly their hospitality went a long way with me, but then many years later....
At my grandmothers house which was over 100 miles away, I had snooped through her house and found some old family videos. I was excited to go back in history and see my family in their early years. Well something happened I did not expect. I watched a video and a face became familiar to me and I was a bit puzzled. I asked my grandmother ( who was alive at the time ) who that was. She said it was the lady who ran the Cool Springs Lodge at Jonas Ridge !!!! Well I didn't know what goose bumps on top of goose bumps felt like until that moment. I then told her my story and she got em too ! Astronomical coincidence or a happening designed from a higher power; I wont ever know. I have tried to contact the lady at Appalachian but to no avail.
