28th August to 29th August 2005
After 90 or so minutes of driving on the wrong side of the road from Alicante (first time using a manual stick with my right hand) I was at Spain's third largest city - Valencia. Founded by Romans in 137 BC, Valentia (meaning strength) as it was originally named is a port city with some truly amazing architecture - both new and old (check out the amazing Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias and L'Oceanografic). It will also be the first time a European city hosts the America's cup. As for the city itself, it is a pleasant town with medieval buildings, cannoned towers and a notable Plaza de la Virgen.
