Lake Bonney, Barmera, SA.

logo

Lake Bonney, situated at Barmera in the South Australian Riverland, is home to a multitude of birdlife.

Normally fed by the Murray River it is currently blocked off to help the levels in the river which is severly effected by the worst drought in Australia in 100years.

If we do not have sufficient rain the Lake is in danger of evaporating within a few years which would have devastating results on the wildlife in the area.

The water levels have already drastically reduced and so I have been keen to visit this area before it is depleated any further.

Recently a group of keen photographers and myself spent a weekend there. (April 2008)

We were blessed with a very wet weekend and though it was a challenge to photography at times it was a lovely sight to see the rain falling on the Lake.

Edit: Revisited July 2009.
