Reggio Calabria

Reggio Calabria is the largest town in Calabria, the peninsular Italian province immediately across the Strait of Messina from the northeast corner of Sicily. The strait is only two miles wide at its narrowest point and is the proposed site of a controversial two-mile-long suspension bridge.

The archeological museum at Reggio houses two spectacular 5th century B.C. bronze warrior statues that were discovered by a skin diver in the Ionian Sea off the Calabrian coast in 1972. They are currently housed in the National Museum of Reggio Calabria.
