Not much on photographing cows, just not my thing. However... this was unusual in the sense of what I used to catch the picture. It was a Nikon d50, but the lens was a Nikkor 135mm Q-C 2.8 lens. This is actually a 4x6 landscape crop out of a 4x6 portrait. I have been really impressed with the sharpness of this lens, and the fact that it is probably well over 30 years old.
