Westfield Chorus trip to San Francisco for Heritage Festival
"From a musical perspective, the students should be very proud of their performances. We were truly victorious and brought home some wonderful awards. Chamber Singers took first place in their division, with a gold rating. A gold rating is the same as superior in District Festival. It means that the choir scored in the highest score category. In other words, it's possible to win and not have particularly high scores if the competition wasn't stiff. In this case that choir won and was noted for their high scores. Bel Canto took second place in the Women's Choir division, but interestingly enough had the highest scores out of all of my choirs that competed in the competition; each judge gave them a '95' out of 100, so they also received a gold rating and in their case their scores won them an 'Adjudicator's Choice' award as well. This tells us that whichever group beat us must have been a truly worthy competitor because our scores were really high. Festival Chorus took third place in their division, also with a gold rating and high scores. Our school orchestra took second place with a gold rating and 'Adjudicator's Choice' award. The combined scores of all Westfield ensembles were higher than any other school present, garnering the Westfield Music Department the 'Sweepstakes' award, which is a super huge trophy that deems us the best school at the competition." -Jessica Lardin, Choral Instructor
