San Simeon and the Hearst Ranch, is located just north of San Luis Obispo, south of San Francisco, on the California coast. It was the castle-like home built by William Randolph Hearst, eccentric millionaire with many friends in the movie industry. He incorporated into the mansion artifacts, treasured items, and imported antiques, as his wealth could afford, including actual ceilings extracted from European castles and ancient music manuscripts which were made into lampshades. He courted an actress, and entertained stars such as Errol Flynn, who would enjoy the elaborately Roman inspired tile mosaic swimming pool and sunny grounds which cover several hundred acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
