Feeling Sad

This picture has always haunted me from the day I took it. I can see so much sadness in this face. I know that zoos do a lot of great things for animals but looking at this makes me wonder how the animals feel about it.

He does look very sad. Everytime I time I see a photo of a primate in a Zoo they seem to have that look. You certainly caught an expression that evokes empathy from the viewer.

Great shot! Hard to know what the baboon is thinking although I agree with you about zoos.

This is a very haunting image Jim I agree. Yes I often wonder what animals think to have us staring at them all the time. V

Yes, a wistful moment for this handsome simian with finely resolved hair. V

There always seems to be something sad about these creatures. This is an excellent portraiture with much feeling. \/

A face any baboon would die for ... in South Africa near Cape Town they used to come down from TableTop Mountain and climb on the hood of your car begging ... and they could be quite persistent, as well. Nicely done ... v

Wonderful shot Jim. I totally agree. I have a distinct love/hate relationship with zoos.
I always leave feeling torn about it too. It is so great to be able to see the animals up close though, and know that they have top notch care. And where else would we be able to photograph them? :o) I love the expression that you captured here. I think his family in the wild probably wears this expression from time to time as well.

I don't like zoos much. Having grown up where these animals roamed freely, it always saddens me to see them caged. Good capture.

poor him... he also looks like a piglet :) sure no zoo can substitute for the natural habitat...
