Frenzied World Cup Fans

Manaus, Brasil

The hotel had a big screen TV they'd wheel out into a lounge area just down the hall from my room whenever Brasil was playing. Due to the time difference between here and Japan / Korea, many of the games were in the middle of the night. I was blasted out of my sleep at 2 or 3 AM on multiple nights by the screaming mob out there watching the game. They'd yell, blow those air powered boat horns, fireworks, etc...

Thankfully, this picture was taken about breakfast time from my hotel room door. We went to breakfast in the "Tucano" (coffee shop) shortly after this picture was taken. All of a sudden we heard screaming and a huge commotion outside from the lounge area. The whole restaurant jumped up and went sprinting out the door to see what had happened (Brasil had scored)...Young people, old people, waiters carrying trays and water pitchers...It was pretty funny. After a few minutes they all slowly straggled back in beaming.
