American Avocets at Shelby Farms, Memphis Tn, 27 Oct 07
Between Drs appts I stopped by Meander Lake and checked it and the small round fish pond where Virginia Reynolds had reported the birds the day before. The birds were agitated by the presence of a hunter training his Brown lab in the fine art of retreiving. Scared the #$%^ out of the birds, Avocets, Killdeer, GB Heron and Geese that were in the pond at the time the dog hit water. Luckily they came back after flying over to Meander for a while and settled down. 10 American Avocets seen in all. Looks like 2-3 adults since they still had some rust color and were also a little larger.
