Merced and San Luis National Wildlife Refuge Complex

The Merced and San Luis National Wildlife Refuges in central California are the wintering ground for many migratory birds such as Sandhill Cranes. Our birdwatching visits are occasionally rewarded with spectacular sunrises and sunsets but always with lots of birds. Sandhill Cranes start to gather at the Merced NWR in large numbers by mid-November and most leave by mid-March.
