The Palo Alto Birding class annual trip to Central California covers a lot of ground. On day 1 we drove north to the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area making several stops on Pennington Road where we saw hundreds of Tundra Swans on the flooded fields and up to 8 Bald Eagles perched on a Transmission Tower. We finished the day south of Yuba City where we encountered 2 Short Eared Owls close to Striplin Road. On day 2 we headed north to the Sacramento NWR where we saw more Bald Eagles and several Redheads. After lunch we headed south to the Davis Water Treatment Plant where we found an Iceland Gull. We finished the day in Robinson Rd. (Solano Co.) where we came across a Burrowing Owl and very distant Mountain Plovers.
