Mormon Battalion Commemorative Sculpture

Located in Armory Park, the original camp site used by soldiers during and immediately after the Civil War, this sculpture commemorates the 1846 arrival of Mormon soldiers making their way to California to fight in the Mexican War. This marked the first time the US flag flew over Tucson.

Yes that's what it is.. you have made the statue come to life here with the light. Very well done indeed.

Agree with JD, this is so lifelike...wonderful light and dof!

The light, the strong contrast, the dof all contribute to the drama of the scene. You made this sculpture alive! Bravo.

You know how much I love to energize sculptures with light and color. I guess I will have to go down to Tucson to take advantage of this. But I don't know if I could match the wonderful colors here -- you were there at the perfect time -- the colors in the mental and the sky are astonishing. Wonderful vantage point, too. The untarnished metal resembles skin. Startling and moving.

Quite apocalytic with that dark sky. Great balance of light. K
