Zeller Strasse begins at the Old Main Bridge at the transition from Saalgasse to Dreikronenstrasse and continues after the Zeller-Tor Bridge from the intersection with Höchberger Strasse in a northwesterly direction as Frankfurter Strasse
It used to be called Klausentorstraße , which led to the Klausentor, later the Zeller Tor . The Klausentor got its name from the nearby infirmary of St. Nikolaus or St. Klaus (a house for people suffering from the plague), which was demolished during the construction of the new fortifications and which was then moved to the road to Veitshöchheim .The old Zeller Straße ran over the Schottenanger to the Zeller Tor. The city wall was not pierced until 1870 after the dissolution of the fortifications of the Mainviertel in 1867
