Potes is in the heart of the region of Liébana, fork place for the valleys of: Valdebaró, Valdeprado, Cereceda and La Hermida. Most of the municipal territory presents important slopes, with the majestic background of the Picos de Europa, with an only flat fringe between the Deva and Quiviesa rivers. It´s protected by a microclimate of Mediterranean features, and a landscape of vegetable gardens and orchards appears on the lower hillsides. Being the main tourist and interest focus in the region of Liébana, people here mostly works in the services sector. The proximity to Picos de Europa makes Potes the neuralgic centre of tourism. The village gastronomy is of great popularity, based on regional autochthonous products: vegetables, legumes, corn, potatoes, as well as the wine "tostadillo" and liquor "orujo".
