De Bleeke dood is also one of the two remaining flour mills in Zaandam. The mill is in Zaandijk on the Zaan (corner Guisweg / Lagedijk) diagonally across the Zaanse Schans. The mill in Zaandijk is also the oldest surviving wooden mill in the Netherlands.
The mill was built in 1656 and was until 1931 on wind power in operation. Interim, the mill in 1922 almost have to succumb to a heavy fire. In 1931, the sails was removed and was further milled in the engine. A few years later, the tail disappeared work and contention. In 1955, however, the mill was restored under the new owner's Association Zaansche Mill and put back on wind power in operation. After a restoration in 2000, the mill is again fully operational condition and there is every Friday milled flour sold in the shop downstairs.
