This town is one of the most beautiful cities in Extremadura, well-known during Arab times. The monumental area, declared a historic-artistic site, revolves around two squares, surrounded by arcades and nice cafes. The Plaza Chica, overlooked by buildings from the sixteenth to eighteenth century, is the most beautiful and has traditionally served as the venue for the flea markets. Furthermore, Zafra retains a beautiful sixteenth century collegiate, several convents, a palace that is now a Parador and a treasure trove of other buildings.
