Houses and Bridges over the Onyar River
Maybe the most famous image from Girona is the row of hanging colored houses over the Onyar River. Placed right in the Old Town, the houses follow a warm chromatic palette confectioned by the Catalan painter Enric Ansesa and two more.
Nowadays there’s nothing left from the medieval bridges over the Onyar River, most of the ones existing today were built in the 19th century following the architectonic style of the Old Town. The more interesting ones are the Stone Bridge (Pont de Pedra, built in 1856), the Iron Bridge (Pont de Ferro, built in 1877), Gomez’s Bridge (Pont d’en Gòmez, built in 1916) and the railway bridge, built in 1876.
