"Trendadís" is the Catalan adjective that means "broken" and "Smashed" and which, nominalized, could also translate as "debris", a word that describes exactly the base material of the technique devised by Antoni Gaudí which was applied for the first time on the lodges of Finca Güell in 1884.Perfectly interpreted by Josep Maria Jujol, Gaudí´s collaborator and creator of the most striking decorative surfaces in the park, "trencadís" is a type of mosaic that is pieced together using broken fragments (very often debris) of tiles and other materials such as glass, cerarmic work, crockety or porcelain held in place with mortar.
