Listed as a monument of historical / artistic heritage. In 1509 Juan de Velasco, Bishop of Calahorra and La Calzada, obtained permission from Pope Julius II to found a monastery in Casalarreina. Construction began in 1514 and ended in 1524, with participation by some great master builders such as Juan de Rasines and Felipe Birgany. It was officially opened in 1522 by Pope Adrian VI.
The monastery complex, inhabited by Dominican Cloistered Nuns since it was founded, comprises the difference cloister dwellings and the church, access to which is gained through a rich plateresque facade with 4 pointed vault arches.
