TREKKING IN KARKONOSZE MOUNTAINS

I spent three days with my female friends, hiking together in the Karkonosze mountains. We had a beautiful, sunny weather and while it's Spring already in Warsaw, we found winter conditions on the mountain trails. We slept in the mountain shelter called Samotnia, one of the oldest mountain refuges in Poland. It is famous for its tourist-friendly atmosphere, wooden interiors and home-made dishes. It is located within the Karkonosze National Park, at 1195 m, in the post-glacial Cirque of the Small Pond (Kociol Malego Stawu).

The KARKONOSZE (English: Giant Mountains; German: Riesengebirge) are a mountain range located in the north of the Czech Republic and the south-west of Poland, the highest and the best known range of the Sudety Mountains.
The highest peak, Mt. Sniezka, (German: Schneekoppe), has an elevation of 1,603 metres (5,259 ft).

The Czech-Polish border, which divides the historic regions of Bohemia and Silesia, runs along the main ridge.
On both sides of the border, large areas of the mountains are designated national parks (the Krkonoše National Park in the Czech Republic and the Karkonosze National Park in Poland).

Two things I'd really love to see changed on PBase (though I know they never will)... first, seeing slideshows at Original size, and two seeing them with the descriptions. This gallery was wonderful as a slideshow but would have been even better had the shots been showing at original size. You can of course just keep moving from one shot to another but it's not quite the same as sitting back and taking it in.
