The Apadana Stone Relief

Persepolis, Iran

Procession of conquered people offering tribute to the king, bas-relief, north stairs.
The stone reliefs depict twenty-three gift-bearing delegations each in its own national dress, and separated from the next by a cypress tree.
A courtier leads the first delegate of every delegation by the hand.

Darius the Great built the greatest palace at Persepolis on the western side. This palace was called the Apadana and was used for official audiences.
The work began in 515 BC and was completed 30 years later by his son Xerxes I.
