Not so Easy Jet

Bristol, England

I'm not happy!!

Yesterday I dropped the 300D onto a concrete floor.
The battery flap broke off but otherwise, so far, it is OK - amazing! Spoke to my Insurance company
and it's far cheaper to repair than write it off! So no new 5D just yet :-(

Last weekend, I bought a 'hand baggage' size bag for my camera gear
in anticipation of my forthcoming visit to see Uncle Sam - what a wasted purchase that was!

Last week we flew to Edinburgh for the day - I took this P&S snap
- never thinking it would probably be the last picture I would be
allowed to take of a plane on 'the tarmac'!

How times have changed - 15 years ago, I paid £25 to charity to fly
on the flight deck of a BA 737 for the day with a pilot friend - no probs!

Seriously, I for one am grateful for the vital but daring work of the
undercover personnel who uncovered this hideous plot,
and will willingly endure any inconvenience if it keeps the Boeings and Airbuses flying safely.

Have a good weekend, everyone.

(Apologies for not visiting my fave PBasers - will get to you over the weekend!)

See it pays to travel by coach:-) I had my camera kit by my side for 24 hours, How will I manage when I fly to Rome in March, I'll switch to eurostar I think. Sorry about the £300D. Great shot, but flying is not for me, already having nightmares about March. looking forward to the pbase meet in Oct. take care Ade

By the way - great photo! I like how you've included the light above the plane to create the line. I would probably have moved in closer to get rid of it, which wouldn't have been so good!

It's all very frustrating John (although agreed it is necessary).
The thing is how can we ensure our camera kits survive the loading/unloading process when we go on flights now?
I for one don't trust the baggage handlers to "handle with care" (that would be a first)!
Suddenly there's a market for bags so durable you could keep eggs in it, and yet thow it at a wall and the eggs wouldn't break. It's unlikely that Lowepro will have it in production before your flight (or mine in 5 weeks) though!

Nice shot, John and I agree with your thoughts.

John, I agree - while I am very glad for additional security. However, I miss the days when flying was care free..

Cool shot John, sorry about the camera too.
Hoping my camera gear can ride up front with me on the short trip.....

Love the shot, John, and empathize with you travelling just now. My turn isn't for a couple of weeks. Best of luck!

Lovely shot John, very atmospheric and probably the last chance you'll get.

How are you planning on getting your camera gear over here, with the carry on restrictions? There's no way I would check all my gear - no way!

Neat shot and comment on the current times.

Wonderful image John, I really like the starburst effect of the lights.

My 300D bounced too ... and carried on working. (I have since worn out the sensor though!)

Nice night time shot of the plane. Kind of erie when you think about the happenings yesterday. If I remember rightly you're going to Boston. Hope you have a good trip. Like you I'm sure everyone travelling is grateful for the added security.

The events of the last two days have again added to changes to the way we think & do things, but like you I believe a few inconvenient changes for safety is a minor price when the outcome may have been horrific on a monsterous scale. Sorry about the camera John !

i'm surprised you got away with taking this pic!

It has been a shocking (yet not too) 36 hours. Things change in a heart beat :(

This shot reminds me of Casablanca for some reason. Nicely done.
Yes flying will be a challenge... but will you make it to California??
Boy those Canon's are sturdy!!!

I managed to drop my 300D on the pavement once, and got into a right panic. But all that happened was that my battery cover flap was damaged. There was a firm in Stoke that supplies them at a relatively modest cost.

Wonderful night shot, but a little confused for " Not so Easy Jet"!
