Here are a few pictures of the hinges I modified to compensate for the cracks in the hinge mounting areas on the liftgate of my Scout. It is not uncommon for these hinges to tear out of the gate as time and use take their toll.
My solution was to add extensions to the hinges and rivet them into the sound sheet metal on each side of the backing plates. I bedded each hinge in auto body seam sealer to keep water from entering the inside through the cracks.
