Evelyn Nesbit was arguably the 20th century’s first major celebrity and the world’s first supermodel. Still in her teens she became involved with famed architect Stanford White and a young John Barrymore. Before her 21st birthday, she was the center of a love triangle that ended in 1906 with the Madison Square Garden rooftop murder of Stanford White, at the hands of her husband, railroad baron Harry K. Thaw. The ensuing trial and media coverage set a precedent for all future Crimes of the Century. A film about her was made in 1955 called "The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing".
