Coming Home to Roost

The photographic potential of these starlings is dependent not only on having a clear sky but also the nature of the winds and temperatures. This photo of just one of the many flocks making their run for the roosting site, shot 2 days later than the one of the flock with a shape) was taken under cold and windy conditions which caused the birds to fly much closer to the ground and to approach the roost from the far side of the copse instead of the top left hand side.

Pretty amazing sight. I thought starling numbers were declining in the UK? Wonderful photo.
