J is for Jura

I was back on the Idiopath yesterday, so no current pic. Instead, here's one from a 2007 PBP 400 km qualifier I did with a chum. It's just before sunrise in late May and we've been riding all night. We're around 800 metres up in the Swiss Jura, it's about 1°C and apart from leggings and rain jackets we're both in summer kit and shivering. And if you're looking at the EXIF, chum hadn't set his clock properly.

About two minutes later we plunged into that fogbank on a steep downgrade and the wet windchill rocketed: I don't think I've ever felt colder in my life. We got to La Chaux des Fonds about an hour later, found the railway station and hung around until the coffee shop opened at 7 am.

Great stuff this cycling.

BTW, it says a lot for chum's steadiness of hand that despite being half foundered he took this at 1/4 sec and it's not shaken.

That are some difficult conditions! Looks cold (and dark)

Really a neat shot, John. You guys are really dedicated (were!) to be out even when you need lights. All night? Way to go!

Wow - that's quite shot considering the time and conditions. Makes me glad to be sitting here snug in our den. ;)
